Scent Layering 101: How to Smell Amazing All Day

If you’ve ever wished your favorite fragrance would last longer than a quick spritz in the morning, scent layering is your answer. It’s a simple technique, but it can completely transform how your scent wears throughout the day. Here’s how I do it:

Step 1: Start with a Clean Base

Freshly showered skin holds fragrance better. I like using a lightly scented body wash or sugar scrub as my first layer—it sets the tone without clashing.

Step 2: Hydrate Your Skin

Moisturized skin holds onto scent longer. Apply an unscented lotion or one that matches your chosen fragrance family (vanilla with vanilla, citrus with citrus, etc.).

Step 3: Add Essential Oils or Oils-Based Perfume

I dab a drop of essential oil (like lavender or vanilla) onto my pulse points before adding a spray perfume. The oil acts as an anchor, helping the scent linger.

Step 4: Mist with Fragrance

This is your main scent—whether it’s a Scentsy body mist, a roller blend, or your signature perfume. Spritz lightly on your wrists, neck, and even your hairbrush for a subtle trail.

Step 5: Refresh Midday

Instead of re-spraying heavily, I keep a travel roller or room spray in my bag. A quick refresh is all you need to feel polished again.
